21st Teaching and Learning Skills

Hello everyone, I’m conducting a research on 21st Century Teaching and Learning Skills. I’d be very happy if you (English teachers) just could spare 20 minutes and complete the survey. I would also love your help promoting it. Would you be interested in promoting it via blogs / social media?  Thanks a lot. http://goo.gl/forms/tVoRCi1UCe   Continue reading 21st Teaching and Learning Skills

Back to School: Tornado

Although Tornado is mostly played with flashcards to revise vocabulary, I believe that it can be used to review anything 🙂 In our orientation week, I played this game with my 4th graders to make a general review of the 3rd grade. It doesn’t require much preparation, it’s fun and students LOVE it.. You just need to prepare a list of questions. It’s all up to you; you can revise vocabulary, grammatical structures or BOTH 🙂 You can use it for a speaking activity or for checking comprehension after a reading text. You can adapt it for whatever you want. … Continue reading Back to School: Tornado

What’s in the Box? (A Merry-Go-Round Improvisation Game)

Students sit/stand in a large circle. The teacher tells them that there is a magic box in the centre of the room and asks questions about it. -Do you see the box? What shape / colour/ size is it? etc.. Then, the teacher goes into the centre of the circle and opens the box. (Of course, in mime!) He pretends that there is something unusual in the box (snake, for example) For a while (1-2 min at most) the teacher talks to himself/to snake about what to do and then invites another student to go and open the box. “He … Continue reading What’s in the Box? The Party Game

This game aims at developing a feeling for the way how status affect behaviour and, in particular, speaking. It doesn’t require much preparation… All you need is small playing cards (use only the numbered ones). If you don’t have or don’t want to use them, you can, of course,  prepare yours. Tell your students that you are going to have a party in the classroom. To set the mood, you can bring in some balloons and play the music in the background.  Then, ask each student to choose a playing card and stick it onto their forehead without looking at … Continue reading The Party Game

Energising the Students: You Know Mrs Jones

It’s an action game with high energy. It’s like “I sent my love to the market and she bought….” with each student adding to the list and telling the rest the contents of the basket. However, here it’s all action! First of all, get your students to sit in circle so that everybody can see each other. Afterwards, practise the dialogue below with them and explain the game. It’s very easy, and I’m sure that your students will love it. A: Do you know Mrs Jones? B: Yes. A: She is dead. B: How did she die? A: Like this … Continue reading Energising the Students: You Know Mrs Jones

Top 10 Reasons to Use Drama Games in the EFL Classroom

Hello everyone, Last month I was in Exeter, UK for a two-week course on “Drama Techniques in The English Language Classroom”. We were 19 teachers from 10 different countries. Here we are! X Center (our school building) I would like to express my deepest gratitude to Richard Clark, our instructor at IPC, for sharing his ‘Bible’ with us which made it possible for me to start this blog. Almost all the content in this category  will be taken from the ‘Bible’. Our dearest teacher At the beginning of the course, we all had a vague idea on how and why … Continue reading Top 10 Reasons to Use Drama Games in the EFL Classroom

Hello everyone!

I decided to start blogging  because I believe that personal reflection is a very important part of any learning process and I guess this is the best place to reflect and share. Now, I suppose you can guess what this blog will be about! Continue reading Hello everyone!
